Rare 1930’s Underwood Universal Manual Typewriter In Black – New Ribbon, Case – Made in USA

£220.00

Working Underwood Universal vintage manual portable typewriter. After some research on the serial code, I concluded that it was manufactured during the 1930’s.

Regardless of such old age, the machine’s performance is exquisite!  The Underwood Universal has smooth operating keys which are responsive and light, and it provides customisable functions to meet your requirements. The backspace key, carriage return lever, bell, shift keys, carriage lock, margin setters, ribbon selector (for the colour change), carriage release lever, paper guide and the paper release lever, all work as intended. The keys are supported by metal rims and have a deep middle for a soft touch. The cast iron look Underwood Universal typewriter, is fitted with a new black ribbon so you can start typing as soon as you get it. Also, it comes with the original case which has a comfortable carrying handle.

The typewriter was made by the Elliot Fisher company, in the USA.

The overall condition of the typewriter is excellent. All of the letter keys work without sticking. Minor cosmetic signs of use and age are present.

This unique engineering invention of the human mind, would be ideal to inspire writers, authors and journalists. Ernest Hemingway created his famous ‘The Old Man and The Sea’ by typing on an Underwood typewriter. This particular typewriter would also be a unique gift. Due to the style and the aesthetics of the Underwood Universal typewriter, it can be used for display purposes like home decor and events such as exhibitions and weddings. It appeals to all generations.

The Underwood Universal vintage typewriter is located in London, UK.
