Fully Restored 1948 Imperial 55 Typewriter – New Ribbon, Original Spools, Dust Cover – Made in England
London Typewriters are delighted to offer for sale a fully restored 1948 Imperial 55 typewriter, which was made in Leicester, England.
The Imperial works exquisitely well. The long lever keys are snappy, precise and comfortable when typing and the whole typing process can be compared almost to enjoying playing a piano.
The backspace, carriage return lever, the bell, the shift keys, margin setters, ribbon colour switch, the carriage release lever, the paper guide and the paper release lever all work as intended.
This English made typewriter is fitted with a new black ribbon so it is ready for immediate action. It also comes with the original metal spools and a dust cover.
It is worth noting that the Imperial 55 is assembled from four main parts: the body, removable carriage, platen (roller) and the middle part. The slightly wider carriage compared to other typewriters, is another valuable element which allows for typing in landscape format.
The overall condition is very good. All of the keys work well, without sticking. Minor signs of age and use are present – please refer to the photos. Please note that the typewriter has a black cast iron body.
Please also note that the typewriter is an office model. It is bigger in size and heavier in weight compared to portable typewriters.
The Imperial 55 typewriter would suit a thematic event, exhibition or a film setting. It would be a great addition to any antique or vintage collection. The typewriter would suit typists of any profession.
