Superb 1956 Underwood Universal Typewriter – New Ribbon, Case – Made in Canada

London Typewriters are elated to present another find in the world of typewriters – a 1956 Underwood Universal typewriter.

Underwood typewriter manufacturing originated in the USA. However, this particular typewriter was manufactured in Canada, which came to us as a surprise. We would like to stress that the machine was made for the British market (a sterling sign is on the top row of keys), but also for use in other countries where the dollar is a national currency.

The Underwood Universal is a precision typewriter, with an enjoyable smooth key action and working in unison with the other functions. All of the mechanisms work as intended and the typewriter produces a good end result.

The typewriter has three line spacing options and the typist will be able to type in columns/tables. The gauging mechanism reacts to the bottom of the sheet and prevents the typist from running off the paper. It is designed to type on cards and a two colour ribbon can be used at a time. With the touch tuning lever, the operator would be able to find the right level to make the typing process effortless.

There is a new black ribbon installed and the machine is ready for immediate action. It comes with a solid case which is in excellent condition.

After our examination, it was concluded that this machine had a very little use in the past as the mechanical and cosmetic condition is well preserved with almost no signs of age and use – please refer to photos.

If you are looking for a robust and reliable typewriter for many years to serve, this Underwood Universal is a must. It would be ideal for typists of various professions and typing skills.
