Working 1921 Remington Portable Typewriter – New Ribbon, Case – Folding Keys – Extra Special Symbols – Made in USA
London Typewriters offer for sale a working Remington Portable typewriter. It was manufactured in 1921, in USA.
The Remington works well. All the mechanisms are intact and the light keys work smoothly. This makes the whole typing process enjoyable and effortless. At the end of every line there is an exciting ‘Ding’ sound letting you know to move to the next line.
There is a new black ink ribbon installed and the Remington is ready for business. The original case comes with this machine, which has a hand-made handle.
It is worth noting that the metal rim keys are protected with glass to prevent the letters from wearing-off.
This particular typewriter has additional keys with special symbols which, at a guess could have been used to write scientific/medical papers or they might be phonetic symbols, we are not sure. We think this machine was probably a bespoke design for professional use.
Overall condition is good. The typewriter works as intended and the keys work without sticking. Minor signs of age and use are present. Please note the capital L does not leave a straight impression on paper – please refer to photos.
The Remington is an excellent choice of typewriter for any professional or a connoisseur collector. It would be a great addition to any collection. The typewriter is suitable for use by typists with any level of typing skills and varying ability, from new beginners to experienced professionals.
