Working 1927 Underwood 4 Bank Typewriter – New Ribbon, Case – Glass Keys – Made in USA


This Underwood 4 Bank portable typewriter was manufactured in 1927, in USA.

Taking into account that it is a ninety-six year old machine, it work really well! The key levers are light and responsive when typing, enabling typists to enjoy the manual typing experience. Each key is surrounded by a chrome rim to support the fingertips.

The Underwood 4 Bank is equipped with a ribbon colour switch mechanism, so you can use a dual colour ribbon, usually black and red and change between the two colours.

This portable typewriter is fitted with a new black ribbon so you can type straight out of the box, without any adjustments. It comes with its own case which has a comfortable hand-made handle.

The machine has undergone a sympathetic restoration, trying to preserve its original features (decals, etc) as much as possible. Minor signs of use and age are present – please refer to photos.

Please note that the backspace is not working. However, to overcome this, you simply push the carriage a couple characters from left to right and adjust with the help of the space bar.

A plethora of famous writers, such as Virginia Woolf and Stephan Zweig, used this model of Underwood to create their well-known novels.

The typewriter would make a great gift. Due to the style and aesthetics of the Underwood typewriter, it can be used for display purposes like home decor and events such as exhibitions and weddings. It would to appeal to all generations of typists.
