Working 1951 Hermes 2000 Manual Portable Typewriter – New Ribbon, Case – Made in Switzerland

Working Hermes 2000 vintage, manual portable typewriter in London (U.K.).

It was manufactured in 1951, according to the serial code, in Switzerland.

The machine works very well, despite being sixty nine years old! The light touch keys are responsive which makes the whole process of typing efficient and enjoyable. The backspace, carriage return lever, the shift keys, ‘lightning’ margin setters, ribbon colour switch, the carriage release lever, the paper guide and the paper release lever, all work as intended.

The machine is equipped with a touch regulator, so the typist is able to adjust the keys to make them softer or harder to their own requirements.

This grey typewriter is fitted with a new black ribbon and the typewriter is ready for immediate use. Also comes with the original case which has a comfortable handle.

The overall condition is good! All of the keys work smoothly and the Hermes 2000 operates as expected. Minor signs of age and use are present.

The Hermes 2000 is associated with Tom Hanks, as it was his first serious typewriter. Later he became a keen admirer of typewriters and a couple of years ago he published a book ‘Uncommon type’ where the typewriter played a role in every short story.

This sophisticated typewriter would really be ideal for professionals in different fields. It will also be a unique gift. Due to the style and the aesthetics of the Hermes typewriter, it can be used for display purposes like home decor and events such as exhibitions and weddings. It appeals to all generations.
