Working 1979 WHSMITH Grey Fox Typewriter – New Ribbon, Case – Made In Japan
Working WHSMITH Grey Fox manual portable typewriter in London (U.K.).
The typewriter was re-branded by the manufacturer from the Silver-Reed into the WHSMITH Grey Fox, retaining all its mechanical features, but with a different exterior design.
According to the serial code, the typewriter was manufactured in 1979. Despite such age, this original grey machine works very well! The comfortable keys are responsive and light making typing on it effortless and enjoyable. The backspace, carriage return lever, the bell, the shift keys, carriage lock, margin setters, ribbon colour switch, the carriage release lever, the paper guide and the paper release lever all work as intended.
This typewriter is fitted with a new black ribbon so it is ready for immediate use. Also comes with the case which has a comfortable handle.
This typewriter is supplied with a touch regulator, enabling the typist to adjust the keys to suit their own touch sensation.
The overall condition is very good. The keys type well and do not stick. Very minor signs and age of use are present.
The Grey Fox would be ideal for a traveller as it is small in size and light in weight. The typewriter could be a starting point for a typewriter novice. It would also be a unique gift. Due to the style and the aesthetics of the Grey Fox typewriter, it can be used for display purposes like home decor and events such as exhibitions and weddings. It appeals to all generations.
