Working Late 1950s Blue Bird Manual Typewriter – New Ribbon, Case – Marble Effect Keys – Made in Western Germany

Working Blue Bird vintage, manual portable typewriter in London (U.K.).

It was manufactured in the late 1950s, in Western Germany.

Despite its age, the machine retains all functions and works well!  The marble effect keys are comfortable and exceptionally light when typing. All the mechanisms work as intended.

This sturdy German typewriter is fitted with a new black ribbon, so it is ready for immediate use. Also comes with the original case which has a comfortable handle.

The Blue Bird is equipped with a ribbon colour switch which enables the typist to choose between two colours, usually black and red, when typing a piece of text. Also, there is a manual ribbon reverse mechanism which has to be triggered manually, when the ribbon comes to the end and is completely wound on one spool. You can use this switch at any time you wish to reverse the ribbon, even before it reaches the end.

The overall condition is good and the Blue Bird works well. Minor signs of use and age are present. Please note that the back panel is missing. However, it does not affect the whole performance of the typewriter.

The famous English romance novelist Jackie Collins wrote her books using a Blue Bird typewriter.

This cool coloured typewriter would be ideal to inspire beginners in learning to type, using a creative, non-electronic piece of engineering. The retro Blue Bird typewriter would also be suitable for typists with hand problems.
