Working Vintage 1930’s Royal Junior Typewriter-New Ribbon, Case – Made in USA
Working vintage Royal Junior manual portable typewriter available in London, UK. According to our research on the serial code, this typewriter was manufactured in the second half of the 1930’s. The machine is a rare find from the Netherlands as it was specifically made in the USA for the Dutch speaking market and it has all the necessary accents used in the Dutch language.
Despite being of such old age, the machine still functions well! Light responsive keys are designed for fast touch typing, producing a clear print impression. The keys are in metal rims and are protected by a cover to prevent them from wearing off. The backspace, carriage return lever, the shift keys, only one margin setter, the carriage release lever and the paper release have incredibly good action. This American made typewriter is fitted with a new black ribbon so you can type as soon as you get it, without any difficulty. Also comes with the original case which has a comfortable carry handle.
The model is simple and basic in design and therefore it lacks the bell, the ribbon colour switch and the right margin. But even though the typewriter is meant for typing in Dutch, it can be equally and successfully used by typists in English.
The overall condition of the machine is good. Minor signs of use and age are present. Please note the insides of the key buttons have some discoloration due to their age.
The Royal typewriter was one of Ernest Hemingway’s and Ian Fleming’s favorite typewriters. Therefore it would be a unique gift to inspire typists to be creative. Due to the style and the aesthetics of the black Royal typewriter, it can be used for display purposes like home decor and events such as exhibitions and weddings. It appeals to all generations and would be a good starting point for someone new to typewriters.
