Working Vintage 1938 Remington Remette Typewriter – New Ribbon, Case – Made in Canada
Working 1938 Remington Remette vintage, manual portable typewriter in London, UK. After some research on the serial code, I concluded that it was manufactured in 1938. Regardless of being eighty years old, the Remington machine works very well! The keys in chrome rims strike very strongly and it encourages the typist to use the machine endlessly. The backspace, carriage return lever, the shift keys, margin setters, the carriage release lever and the paper release lever work as intended. This Canadian made typewriter is fitted with a new black ribbon, so it is ready for immediate use. The typewriter comes with its original case which has a comfortable hand-made handle.
The overall condition is good. All of the keys work fine and the Remington types well. Minor signs of use and age are present.
This particular typewriter was manufactured at the end of the Great American Depression, when the industries suffered a major downturn. As a result of this, the Remington Remette parts were made in USA and assembled in Canada. Also probably to keep the cost down, this model is lacking a bell, a ribbon colour switch, a paper support and the exclamation mark. The exclamation mark is made by using an apostrophe, then backspace, followed by a period.
The black wrinkle painted Remington typewriter would be ideal for writers and authors, who would appreciate such a historic article. It would also make a unique gift. Due to the style and aesthetics of the Remington Remette typewriter, it can be used for display purposes like home decor and events such as exhibitions and weddings. It would probably appeal to older generations of typists.
The vintage Remington Remette typewriter is located in London, UK.
