Working Vintage 1940s Royal Typewriter – New Ribbon, Case – Made in USA
Working vintage Royal manual portable typewriter available in London (U.K.). The typewriter was manufactured in the 1940s, in USA.
Despite being around eighty years old, the machine still functions well! Light responsive keys are designed for fast touch typing, producing a clear print impression. The keys are in metal rims are protected by a clear glass cover to prevent letters from wearing off. The backspace, carriage return lever, the shift keys, the left margin setter, the carriage release lever, the paper guide and the paper release have very good action. This American made typewriter is fitted with a new black ribbon so it can be used straight after arrival. Also comes with the original case which has a comfortable carry handle.
The overall condition is very good. Minor signs of use and age are present.
This is quite uncharacteristic and unusual for the Royal typewriters, but this model is basic, meaning that the typewriter lacks the right margin, the bell and the colour ribbon switch (only a ribbon of one colour can be used at a time).
The Royal typewriter was one of Ernest Hemingway’s and Ian Fleming’s favorite typewriters. Therefore, the Royal typewriter might inspire a young writer to test their writing skill by typing on this model. The Royal can also be an unusual gift for any occasion or a centrepiece at any thematic event. It appeals to any generation of typists.
